Search misses a file I know exists.
Hidden items and system folders are never in search results. Search covers your home folder by default. Open Advanced under the box and choose "Whole Mac" or "This folder". Names must contain the text you typed. Accents count: e does not match é. On Windows, a search stops after 8 seconds and can miss files. Open a smaller folder and search again.
A search seems to wait after I install.
A spinning ring shows while the index builds. On a Mac, Hyperdrive builds its first index in the background. A faint note beside the Hyperdrive search box says "Hyperdrive indexing... it takes a little while, but it is worth it." Classic answers searches until it is ready.
Search shows only some results.
Hyperdrive returns the first 2,000 matches. Fast Finder says when more exist. Type more of the name.
A folder size looks too big.
Hover over the size. The tooltip shows what hidden items add. See Folder sizes.
macOS says the app cannot be checked.
See Install on Mac.
Windows blocks the app.
If the blue window has More info, press it, then press Run anyway. If there is no Run anyway button, a Windows setting blocks apps that are not signed. Do not turn it off. See Install on Windows (beta).
My other computer is not in the sidebar.
Check that Tailscale is on and signed in on both computers, and that "visible" is on for the other one. Press Refresh. See Other computers.
A search is slow.
The timing pill shows how long it took. On a Mac, these searches use Classic: Whole Mac, several words, patterns, Type, Size and Modified filters, several extensions, folders outside your home folder, and Search inside files. Try a plain name in Home. The Windows beta has no Hyperdrive and no index. See Search engines.
How do I use Hyperdrive or Classic?
On a Mac, open Settings, then Search, then Search engine. The Windows beta has no Hyperdrive. See Search engines.
Is Fast Finder free?
Yes, for personal and non-commercial use. No support and no warranty. Features marked Pro are free for now.
