Install Fast Finder on Mac

Download the zip, drag the app to Applications, and open it. Fast Finder needs a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 13 or later. There is no build for Intel Macs.

Install

  1. Open https://fastfinder.dev/dl/mac/latest in your browser. The download starts.
  2. Open the zip. Safari unzips it for you. In other browsers, double-click the zip in Downloads.
  3. Drag "Fast Finder.app" into your Applications folder. The zip also holds a short "READ ME FIRST.txt".
  4. Open Fast Finder from Applications.
  5. If macOS says the app was downloaded from the internet, press Open. macOS asks this once.

Check your chip

  1. Open the Apple menu.
  2. Choose About This Mac.
  3. Read the Chip line. It must say Apple M1 or newer.

If macOS cannot check the app

The current Mac download is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. If macOS cannot check your copy, download the current build again from https://fastfinder.dev/download. Read the download checks before you open it.

Folder access

The first time you open a folder such as Documents or Downloads, macOS asks you to allow it. Allow it so Fast Finder can list the folder.

Updates

Fast Finder does not look for updates by itself. To update, download the newest build from https://fastfinder.dev/download. In the app, open Settings (the gear), then "Update app". The button opens the download page in your browser.
