Fast Finder help

Uninstall Fast Finder

Quit the app and delete it. You can also remove its settings and cache.

Optional, before you delete the app: turn off usage counts on the Privacy page, under the gear at the top right. Fast Finder then asks the server to forget this install.

Mac

  1. Quit Fast Finder (Cmd+Q).
  2. Open Applications.
  3. Move "Fast Finder.app" to the Trash.

Optional: remove settings and cache

Fast Finder writes to these folders. Each step is optional.

  1. Delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/FastFinder. It holds your settings, your menu file, saved searches and search history, the folder-size cache, the usage-count queue, crash reports, and the log and socket of the search helper.
  2. Delete the folder ~/Library/Caches/FastFinder. It holds temporary copies from other computers and from archives, and the Talk2me download. Fast Finder removes old files from it by itself.
  3. Delete the Classic search index: the folder ~/Library/Application Support/FSearch. Skip this step if you also use the separate fsearch tool.
  4. Delete the Hyperdrive cache: the folder ca.talk2me.fastfinder/hyperdrive in your macOS user cache folder. To find that folder, run getconf DARWIN_USER_CACHE_DIR in Terminal.

Optional: remove the background agent

Do this if you turned on "Make this machine visible on Tailscale".

  1. Open Fast Finder, then the Tailscale card.
  2. Turn off "Make this machine visible on Tailscale". This stops the agent. It moves its file to ~/Library/LaunchAgents.disabled/.
  3. Then quit and delete the app as above.
  4. Delete the file com.godot.fast_finder_agent.plist from ~/Library/LaunchAgents.disabled/.
  5. Optional: delete the log file ~/Library/Logs/FAST-agent.log.

Windows

  1. If you turned on "Make this machine visible on Tailscale": open Fast Finder, click Tailscale in the sidebar under Network, and turn that switch off. This stops the agent and removes it from the apps that start when you sign in.
  2. Quit Fast Finder.
  3. Delete the FastFinder-0.1 folder.
  4. Optional: delete the folder %APPDATA%\FastFinder. It holds your settings.
  5. Optional: delete the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\FastFinder\Cache. It holds temporary copies.

Did you delete the folder while the switch was on? In PowerShell, run reg delete HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v FastFinderAgent /f, then sign out and sign in again.
