Fast Finder help

Other computers

Fast Finder can browse your other Macs and PCs over Tailscale. They appear under Network in the sidebar.

Tailscale is optional. Everything on your own computer works without it. The features marked Pro (other computers over Tailscale) are free for now.

What you need

  1. Fast Finder on each computer (a Mac, or a PC with the Windows beta).
  2. The Tailscale app on each computer, signed in to the same Tailscale account. Get it at https://tailscale.com/download.

Set up

  1. Click Tailscale in the sidebar, under Network. The Tailscale card opens.
  2. On each computer you want to open from elsewhere, turn on "Make this machine visible on Tailscale". This starts the Fast Finder agent at login. It needs no admin password.
  3. On the computer you sit at, turn on "Let this machine browse my other machines".
  4. Your other machines appear under Network. When Fast Finder finds a machine for the first time, it asks what to do: Add to sidebar, Not now, or Never.

If the card says Tailscale is not installed or not signed in, fix that, then press Refresh.

What you can do

  • Open another machine's folders in any view, in a tab or in the second pane.
  • Copy files between machines, in both directions.
  • Search another machine.

A file you delete on another computer is deleted for good. It does not go to a Trash.

Security

When "visible" is on, devices on your Tailscale account can browse this machine's files. The Tailscale card says so. Details: https://fastfinder.dev/tailscale
